The 202020 Vision is a national initiative funded through the nursery industry levy, with the aim of increasing trees and plants in urban areas by 20% by 2020.
The training is being offered as part of the levy funded project ‘Building the resilience and on-farm biosecurity capacity of the Australian production nursery industry’, and will add to a suite of web-based resources being developed.
A survey of eligible production nurseries has found that nearly half are interested in taking the next step and becoming certified under the industry-specific on-farm biosecurity program, BioSecure HACCP.
It’s one of the key focus areas of the National Nursery Industry Biosecurity Program, a levy-funded project led by National Biosecurity Manager, John McDonald.
The latest research produced by Josh Byrne & Associates, commissioned by Horticulture Innovation Australia, for the 202020 Vision Policy Guide provides a roadmap for those pushing for increased urban green space, helping them to navigate the myriad of policies and regulations that impact planning decisions around creating greener and more liveable cities.
The 202020 Vision Policy Guide was developed in response to the frustration and confusion felt by representatives of the 202020 Vision’s 400-strong network members and organisations around inconsistent policies, excessive clearing, poor planning decisions and lack of incentives for truly innovative and world class green infrastructure developments.

Sixty percent of the nursery levy is allocated to R&D. This is matched with Australian Government funding to address key industry issues. The industry allocates the remaining 40 per cent of the levy in marketing the industry.
The Nursery and Garden Industry Strategic Investment Plan 2012 – 2016, which is due to finish by the end of the year, will be a starting point for the new plan.
