Future nursery leaders invited to take the next step

Zoe Palmer

If you are ready to advance your career, or know of an emerging leader in your business, now is the time to apply for the 2018 Green Industry Growing Leaders Program.

The Green Industry Growing Leaders Program is a four-month professional development course, funded by Hort Innovation and designed to equip the next generation of nursery and turf industry participants with stronger leadership skills to drive effective business change.

Zoe Palmer from Anderson Horticulture Pty Ltd, New South Wales, participated in the 2017 program and believes the course empowered her to receive a promotion to Nursery Manager.

“I needed to step-up into a managerial role and knew what I needed to do, but didn’t have the tools to do it. This program has given me the skills and confidence to make better decisions and manage the team more effectively,” said Ms Palmer.

“After the initial face-to-face workshop in Sydney, I went back to work with a fresh perspective, renewed energy and I was promoted not long after, which was certainly helped along by my participation in the course.”

The program is also an opportunity to equip managers with effective strategies and methodology to address staff and business issues.

“I was keen to learn how to deal with confrontation. This course has helped me manage the problem then and there rather than create inefficiencies and divide within the team,” said Ms Palmer.

Benefits of the program include:

  • Structured assistance to achieve personal and business goals
  • Fresh ideas from participants, facilitators and presenters
  • Increased focus through reducing time spent on urgent and fire-fighting matters
  • Enhanced decision-making abilities
  • Support and guidance from fellow participants.

Face-to-face sessions will be held in Sydney 1-2 May and Brisbane 1-2 August. In between, there will be phone/webinar contact and mentoring, giving participants an opportunity to put their new skills to the test within their own business.

The course is fully funded, apart from travel and accommodation costs to attend the face-to-face sessions.

Applications are open now and will close Friday, 9 March 2018 at 5pm.

The program is being run by The Right Mind, and has been funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia using research and development nursery and turf industry levies and funds from the Australian Government.
