Industry eLearning platform live

Nursery & Garden Industry Australia are proud to announce that the new industry eLearning platform was launched at the recent NGIA 2014 National Conference.

The new training platform has a number of foundation courses including Introduction to the Nursery Production Farm Management System and Growing Media 101. Additional courses will be added in the coming months to cover relevant industry issues relating to biosecurity, technical programs and retail workshops.

The elearning platform is web based and easily accessible from computers and mobile technology such as tablets and smart phones. The delivery of the training incorporates video and text based elements and is supported by simple online assessments. The course structures are well suited to flexible learning; students can log off from courses at any stage and resume from where they have left off at a time and location which is suitable for them. Supporting course materials such as student note books are available to download through the course so that students have a resource to keep with them in the workplace. At the completion of a course students are able to download a certificate of completion recognising their achievement.

The eLearning platform will give industry a tool to deliver a greater reach and distribution of training. One issue with the delivery of face to face industry training in the past has been for indiviudals the inability to take time away from a business to travel and attend a training course. In addition, travel and accommodation can be expensive without the added cost of being away from the business.  This new training delivery format will see greater flexibility for delivery at a time and place convenient for the individual, and will see greater opportunities to delivery training to staff that previously may not have had access to such training opportunities.
