NGIA attended a kick-off meeting at Standards Australia on March 14 to commence the process in drafting the Australian Standard for Growing Trees. Dr Anthony Kachenko and Mr Tony Green (Managing Director of Andreasen’s Green Nurseries) represented NGIA at this meeting.
In addition to NGIA, several organisations were represented at this meeting including Arboriculture Australia, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, Institute of Australian Consulting Arboriculturists, Local Government Tree Resources Association and Australian institute of Horticulture. The role of this committee is to ensure all relevant organisations provide input and expertise into the development of the Standard.
During the meeting, the procedures of drafting the Standard were discussed and guidance was provided to Anthony Kachenko who will be tasked in drafting the Standard in the coming months. Anthony will work closely with the NGIA National Tree Standard Steering Committee (NNTSSC) to consolidate industry data and information to guide NGIA in developing the Standard. The NNTSSC plans to meet in May to discuss progress.
The proposed Standard will incorporate relevant data from international tree growing Standards to ensure completeness. There will be ample opportunity along the way to provide input into its development.
If you would like further information on the outcomes from the kick-off meeting at Standards Australia or the NNTSSC, please contact Anthony at NGIA on firstname.lastname@example.org or 02 8861 5106.
