Disposal of waste is an on-going issue for containerised production nurseries due to the large amounts of very different types of waste generated during production. Managing and disposing of this waste can cost more than first thought with several waste analysts suggesting waste disposal can be ten times more than shown in accounting records!
How to reduce waste management costs while being environmentally responsible is the focus of a new industry levy funded project (NY13003) to assess the amount and types of waste generated by containerised production nurseries. The project will identify what types of waste are produced and what options there are to re-direct the waste for alternative uses and offset waste disposal costs.
The first stage of the project is to identify what types of wastes are generated at all levels of production then develop options to re-purpose waste, add value and reduce disposal costs. Nursery managers are encouraged to complete the online survey and tell us what waste disposal issues you have. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will be open until Thursday 31 July 2014.
