The levy funded Industry Development Officer (IDO) Network (NY12006) undertook Lead Auditor training at the NGIA office in Sydney on 10-13 February. Joining the IDO network were three Farm Management Systems officers who are managed by NGIQ and funded outside of the nursery levy through various grants.
The purpose of the training was to provide the IDO network with new skills to drive greater consistencies with the delivery of the Nursery Production Farm Management System (incorporating the NIASA, EcoHort and BioSecure HACCP programs) with businesses across the country. It was also designed to expose and familiarise the IDO network with various Australian Standards in the anticipation of AS2303 Tree Stock for Landscape Use being published later in 2014.
Key areas covered in the workshop included:
1. The human aspects of the auditing (body language, questioning techniques), communication techniques (verbal, oral and written)
2. The issues associated with the auditee
3. The ability to initiate, plan, undertake, lead and report external audits
4. Key risk management principles
Feedback from the IDO network was positive with each member receiving a statement of attainment.
