Nursery Industry Biosecurity levy approved by Government

The Nursery Industry Biosecurity levy which is a critical aspect of the industries obligations as signatory to the Emergency Plant pest Response Deed, will be signed off by the Government Executive Council and be in place from 1 July 2013.
The levy was the subject of industry consultation in September 2012 and submission to the Federal Government in December. The Nursery and garden Industry Australia was a signatory to the EPPR Deed in 2005 so the need for a levy has been a key issue. Recently the Industry updates their Biosecurity Plan which can be downloaded from both the NGIA website and Plant Health Australia’s website.
The implementation of a levy, which is set at 0% and will only be implemented after consultation with Industry shows that the nursery industry throughout Australia is committed to Biosecurity, both on farm and in the wider environment.
