WEBINAR: The search for heat and drought tolerant urban plants

Thursday, 17 June 2021

The team at Which Plant Where (WPW) will be leading a webinar to discuss how to best plan for urban green space, utilising heat and drought tolerant plants that will be resilient to predicted warmer and drier climates. This project has been funded through Hort Innovation’s Green Cities fund.

Climate change will result in hotter and drier conditions for many of Australia’s urban regions, making growing conditions tough for plants in our urban green spaces.

The webinar will explore what contributes to heat and drought tolerance in plants, tests this out for a range of urban horticultural species and suggests a rapid screening approach to identify new opportunity species. We discuss how growers and industry can contribute to finding new, climate-smart species and create sustainable plantings for the future.

The webinar will share findings to help industry plan for future demand in horticultural species from councils, landscape architects and urban area stakeholders to deliver urban greening projects.
